First things first: not to state the obvious but the IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Sport Replica is not going to be for everybody. For a start its 44mm in diameter and 15mm thick, making it, shall we say, less attractive to those with smaller wrists. On the flip side however, the case is constructed from lightweight, super strong titanium, which means the replica watch is nowhere near as heavy as it may first appear.
What really caught my attention however was the jet-black dial, which is framed nicely by the polished titanium bezel. There’s not much in the way of color, other than the contrasting white highlights on the various hands and indices, which can sometimes be a little boring however in the case of the IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Sport it really works. It gives the replica watch that unexpected sense of sophistication I was talking about earlier plus it makes the dial really easy to read.
The 2-register flyback chronograph dial layout features elapsed hour and minute counters combined in a totalizer at 12 o’clock, along with small hacking seconds in a separate sub-dial at 6 o’clock. The small seconds hand is in the shape of a lightning bolt, which according to IWC serves as a reminder that a soft-iron cage protects the movement against the negative influence of magnetic fields. It’s a little bit cheesy but not so much that it’s off-putting, plus it will make for a good conversation starter at parties. Hours and minutes, along with the chronograph seconds, are displayed centrally and there is a date window at 3 o’clock. Completing the dial is a tachymeter scale running around the periphery, useful for measuring speed.
Powering the IWC Ingenieur Replica is the Manufacture 89361 calibre, an automatic movement with flyback chronograph functionality. As previously mentioned, a soft-iron cage protects the movement against the negative influence of magnetic fields. The reason for this goes back to the origin of the collection, which was originally aimed specifically at a profession that came into regular contact with magnetic fields and gave the replica watch its name: engineers – or in German, Ingenieure. As a subtle nod to this fact the dial features a vintage ‘Ingenieur’ logo next to the date at 3 o’clock.

IWC’s recent strategy has been to focus on refreshing a single collection each year. For 2017, that was the Da Vinci, but that is not to say that IWC has totally neglected its other collections. In fact, IWC men's replica has recently and quietly bolstered its Portofino collection with the new Portofino Hand-Wound Tourbillon Rétrograde replica watch. The Portofino collection is mostly made up of simple time-only replica watches, so the addition of a more complicated piece is much welcome.
For now, the IWC Portofino Hand-Wound Tourbillon Rétrograde is only available in an 18k red gold case. With dimensions of 45mm in diameter and 14.1mm in height, the IWC Portofino Hand-Wound Tourbillon Rétrograde is a rather large replica watch. The design of the case seems to closely follow that of the Portofino replica watches - a very classic design with slim-looking lugs and a thin bezel. The crown looks to be fairly beefy and large, which should be seen as a good thing since this is a manually wound replica watch. Water resistance is 30 meters.
The IWC Portofino Hand-Wound Replica Watch has a silver-plated dial with gold leaf-shaped hands. The hours are marked by gold baton markers and there’s a simple minute track with every 5-minute marker clearly indicated with Arabic numerals. At 3 o’clock, there’s a handy power reserve indicator, and at 6 o’clock you have the exposed one-minute flying tourbillon. Finally, at 9 o’clock you have a retrograde date indicator.
The retrograde date indicator is pretty cool, but I have doubts about its practicality. It doesn’t look particularly legible to me as only the 3rd day of the month and thereafter every 4 days are marked by Arabic numerals - the rest of the days are marked by a simple track. As a result, if the date falls in between the ones marked by the Arabic numerals, some squinting could be necessary before one can make out the exact date.
The IWC Portofino Hand-Wound Tourbillon Rétrograde is driven by the 59900 caliber, which is visible through the large sapphire crystal display case back. It looks to be quite nicely finished with open-worked bridges, beveled edges, Côtes de Genève, and perlage. One can also see the large mainspring which offers the movement a generous power reserve of 192 hours or 8 days. To improve efficiency, the pallet fork and escape wheels are made out of diamond-coated silicon.
However, the standout feature of the 59900 caliber has got to be its hacking tourbillon, which allows owners to easily set their replica watches to the second. Believe it or not, a stop-seconds mechanism for the tourbillon was only invented by A. Lange & Söhne in 2008, so tourbillon replica watches that hack are still relatively rare.

There’s a very good chance you’ve never heard about this IWC men's replica watch, nor seen any pictures of it, despite the fact that it's not some brand new release dropping today. And why might that be? First off, it’s not even on IWC’s website. So you can imagine my surprise when, flipping through IWC’s 2016/2017 catalogue, I landed on this replica watch. Immediately I knew I had to get my hands on one to take a closer look.
The reason IWC hasn’t talked about it until now – and I suspect that will change very soon – is because the company likes to focus on one collection at a time. When it comes to new product launches, that’s been the strategy at IWC for a number of years. So when it re-launched the Da Vinci line at the SIHH in January, that’s what was the press was shown, almost exclusively. But, very quietly, IWC also launched a new Portofino, the ref. 5164, and it's one good looking High Quality Replica Watches.
Not bad, right? In my opinion, it’s probably the best thing IWC has released so far this year. The new Da Vinci line was always going to receive mixed reviews, and it did, while the very many complications presented in the new Ingenieurs tried to please everyone but didn't exactly knock it out of the park. This new 45mm Portofino on the other hand? It truly has a lot going for it.
First of all, it has a moonphase complication. It’s the complication the Portofino was born with, more than 30 years ago, and its one the current line-up has been desperately missing – it has been available on the Automatic Moon Phase 37, but that also only comes with diamonds on the bezel and/or dial, so it's a different story. It’s reappearance in a large case Portofino is therefore a bit of an event.
The new Portofino Hand-Wound Moon Phase on the other hand, is very much meant to be a wristreplica watch. The movement inside is the same base movement found inside the new Portofino Hand-Wound line-up, which includes the ref. 5101. Just like that more basic model, this replica watch features a small date at three o’clock, small hacking seconds at six o’clock, and a power reserve indicator at nine o’clock (for the eight-day, hand-wound power reserve). But in addition to all of that, you get a beautiful moon phase display at 12 o’clock, and it totally changes the replica watch.

When IWC Men's Replica launched Ingenieur in 1954 and it was considered more as a tool watch than as a piece of haute horlogerie. Perhaps tool watch has a bit of a negative connotation, because nowadays this term is generally used for bigger and more rugged watches. The first Ingenieur was more seen as a ‘civilian’ version of the IWC Mark XI, one of the ancestors of the modern IWC pilot collection. Both watches had a soft-iron core around the movement, to protect negative influence from magnetism, however the Ingenieur was equipped with an automatic winding movement.
The photo shows the men's IWC Ingenieur Replica watch, which is in fact an Ingenieur Automatic from the Vintage Collection with a blue dial and a special engraved case back.
Also the size is different. The more modern Ingenieur measures 42 mm in diameter, while the vintage Ingenieurs had various diameters between 36.5 – 37.2 mm. Now-a-days this is considered small, but at that time the Ingenieur was actually a rather large for watch. This was due to the the soft iron casing.
Although the Ingenieur was a sort of a tool watch, it was produced for the civilian market and thus it was offered in a variety of ‘elegant’ dials in 18 carat gold en gold/steel cases. The IWC Ingenieur from the Vintage Collection resembles one of the first versions, reference 666A with the space between the double slash marker at the 12 o’clock position (photo above is borrowed from the IWC forum). Same, same, but a little different, because the vintage Ingenieur reference 666A does not have a date. This is already the fifth special edition IWC dedicated to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. A good reason to dig a bit deeper in the history of the IWC Ingenieur.
This week we start with a photo of an IWC Ingenieur Laureus watch replica, that was made by Dimer and immediately caught my attention.
IWC Ingenieur Laureus watch replica
For a very, very thorough history of the dial variations on vintage IWC Ingenieurs I can recommend to read the article by Larry Seiden, Marco Schönenberger and David ter Molen. By the way, did you know that the comes from the Swiss thunderbolt icon that warns of an electrical current’s presence? IWC has chosen the thunderbolt to represent the Ingenieur’s anti-magnetic abilities, because of its special soft iron shield construction to protect the best Swiss IWC watch replica against magnetic fields.

The IWC Da Vinci Replica Automatic is sized at 40mm, which by modern standards can often be considered a unisex size. It's slim at 10mm thick and the proportions are ideal for a replica watch that's meant for both men and women (note that this year also saw the release of the 36mm-wide IWC Da Vinci Automatic 36 that is specifically for women). I, for one, don't have much of an issue with a 40mm case and find these measurements to exist somewhere within the sweet spot in terms of comfort and versatility. It's good to see IWC push women's replica watches that aren't exactly dainty or explicitly feminine as well. They made a similar move last year with the IWC Pilot's replica watch
Automatic 36 which, funny enough, was the same size as the original Mark XI. But hey, either way, I'm not one to complain about more women wearing IWCs and the brand has certainly grown in their consideration of the female demographic and how they market to them.
I did want to include the image of the advertisement for a previous Da Vinci line here just because it's interesting and hilarious to see just how dated it looks. It's like a drunk uncle at Thanksgiving. Anyway, just wanted to share that little bit of irony since IWC is marketing more to women than ever this year. Back to the replica watch...
The dial is simple, which can mean elegant for some or boring for others. With a time-only layout and unobtrusive date placement at 6 o'clock sitting within a well-contrasted seconds track. Both the silver-plated and slate dial finishes serve as nice backdrops for the polished Arabic numerals and the lancet-shaped hands, which are both color-matched for their respective dials. One thing you'll notice is that the twin frame bezel is actually quite pronounced, and its combination with the convex sapphire crystal results in a compact, vintage-inspired look.
A noticeable feature is the set of horn lugs which are hinged and meant to adjust to the wrist's contours for a closer fit. It's a great addition for smaller wrists and a design touch that recalls some of the earlier replica watches in the Da Vinci collection like the Da Vinci SL Automatic Ref. 3528.
We've seen IWC do some amazing work with Santoni and naturally, the silver dial Ref. IW356601 comes with a Santoni alligator leather strap fitted with a stainless steel pin buckle. It's a logical pairing, though you can't help but love the slightly more aggressive styling of the Ref. IW356602 with its polished stainless steel bracelet meant to match the slate dial. Either of the configurations provides a pleasant wearing experience, and it will be interesting to see how much after-sales support IWC will provide in the way of compatible strap options.

On the occasion of the opening of its third Italian boutique - after Rome and Venice - in the heart of Milan’s luxury shopping area, IWC Mens Replica introduced the new Portugieser Chronograph Rattrapante Edition "Boutique Milano" (Ref. IW371215), a 100-piece limited edition.
In some way this timepiece can be considered the successor of the Portuguese Rattrapante Ref. IW3712-14, a 300-piece limited edition created for the Italian market in 2006.
The IWC Portugieser Chronograph Rattrapante Edition "Boutique Milano" Replica features, at 10 o’clock, the characteristic third button for the rattrapante mechanism.
Unlike a standard chronograph, the rattrapante or split-seconds chronograph has two hands that start simultaneously. The rattrapante hand, which is superimposed on the stopreplica watch hand, can be stopped independently using a third button at 10 o’clock, while the stopreplica watch hand continues to run. This permits the user to record two separate times, exact to the second, within any given minute. If the third button is pushed again, the split-seconds hand instantaneously catches up and is synchronised with the other hand.
Offering water resistance to 30 metres / 100 feet, the 41 mm x 12.5 mm red gold case frames a beautiful blue dial with tachymetric scale and telemetric scale. The latter is used to calculate the distance of an event (lighting, for example) based on the time interval from when the lightning is seen to when the sound is heard.
The hand-wound IWC-manufactured calibre 76240 beats at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and guarantees a power reserve of 48 hours.
The connection with Milan is emphasised by the back case incision evoking the "Biscione", the grass snake of the Visconti noble dynasty which became the symbol of the city during the Middle Ages. The back case also displays the individual number of each of the 100 pieces that will be produced.
